I
SHALL CLOSE MY EYES |
| Exhibition: |
Sekali Lagi, Australian
Artists Revisit, Malaysia, Asialink Exhibition at Rimbun Dahan
Gallery |
| Description: |
Detail of installation
set up in the external central courtyard of the gallery space.
The installation consisted of eight "black on black" wall
paintings/panels with English text in individual squares. In the
paving, 365 brushes (each painted white - replacing black
squares in the paintings) were repacked in plastic bags and
installed standing upright. |
| Materials: |
Vinyl canvas, paint,
brushes and plastic |
| Size: |
Wall paintings - 300 cm
x 150 cm, brush size 15 x 18 x 1.5 cm |
| Date: |
August 1999 |
Brief
Concept
Description: |
The concept for this
installation is based on denying of particular aspects of ones
self in order to deal with an external force. The eight panels
begin as black and white checker board patterns. Each white
square is painted over and replaced with a white paint brush in
the ground plane. Lines of text dealing with the senses are
scratched through this layer of black paint to expose the white
beneath. |

Brief
Concept
Description: |
Our aim for this project
was to design functional pieces that could be incorporated into
the landscape. The use of cast iron recalls architectural detail
in the older homes in the area. Our design philosophy was to
communicate a sense of protection and nurturing while remaining
dignified in context with the function of the building as a
working police station. |
